October 5th, 2018
I know it’s only October but the internet is awash with ideas for Christmas. There’s no getting away from it, so rather than being my usual ‘bah humbug’ self this year, I have decided to embrace it.
The other day an image popped up on the world of social media, a beautiful-looking Panettone wrapped in gold paper with a handsome green ribbon. This was from Valvona and Crolla in Edinburgh, Italian delicatessen supremos. Their Panettone really is delicious and every year we buy at least two, one plain and one chocolate, the latter is the key ingredient in a very indulgent Panettone bread and butter pudding.
The image from Valvona urged me on to tell you about my own seasonal offering. Festive Fig and Plum Chutney, dark, rich and full of Christmas spice. Delicious with all game dishes, pies and cold meats, works really well with pate and it’s great with cheese.
The Festive Chutney is a Limited Edition, I’ve got lots of it already made and it’s maturing in anticipation of being perfect very soon and it will keep for ages. I reckon it needs a couple of months to mature so after the end of October, I won’t be making any more for this Christmas.
Have a look in the ‘Shop’ area of the website. When you buy three jars of any preserve across the range, mix and match as you like and we’ll package up the three jars in a charming box, customised for Christmas. They make lovely small gifts, ideal to take along to thank a host, for Granny or anyone at all really. Of course you don’t need to stop at three, please buy three, six, nine or thirty-nine!
